An electrolyzer facility – the world’s first of its kind – is now being constructed in Herning, Denmark. Supported by the EU Innovation Fund, it will manufacture Topsoe’s next-generation SOEC* electrolyzers. SOEC is essential to more energy-efficient production of green hydrogen and its derivatives like ammonia and methanol.
In its first 10 years of operation, the Herning facility will enable customers to reduce emissions equivalent to 40 million tonnes of CO2 compared to hydrogen produced from natural gas.
Their own targets are equally ambitious. By 2030, Topsoe aims to reduce their operational greenhouse gas emissions by 95% compared to 2020. And by 2040 reach net-zero emissions across their entire value chain.
Construction of the Herning facility was realized with a 1 billion DKK Green Term Loan from SEB. Through advice and new types of financing, we support the acceleration towards a low-carbon economy – and society.
