International Trainee Programme 2021

General requirements

You have an academic degree in Finance, Economics, IT, Engineering, Behavioral Science or equivalent and maybe some work experience. You are also fluent in written and spoken English. You have experience acquired through leading projects. Extra-curricular work within e.g. customer service or other service areas and studying/working abroad it's qualifying. You are an EU citizen or have a Swedish work permit.

Personal characteristics

You are focusing on building relationships and network. You have an ability to lead others to achieve team performance. You are business- and solution oriented with strong analytical & problem solving skills and a quick learner.

About the programme

At SEB you are joining a large international company with more than 15 000 professionals. Our International Trainee Programme is designed to give you a broad and immersive introduction to working across a complex international organisation.

In the programme all trainees are offered a specific job role and belong to a home unit for the duration of the programme. The programme has approximately 15 positions across Sweden and at a few international sites. The programme starts in September and runs for 9 months.

There are two cornerstones in the Trainee Programme on which you will spend a similar amount of time:


On-the-job practice:
You belong to a home team from the start where you will get support and inspiration to grow and perform in your job assignment. Together with your manager you will plan rotations and gigs with other units and departments to get a broad understanding of how to work in a big international organisation. You also have the opportunity to plan for an international internship to another SEB office of up to 4 weeks after graduating from the Programme.

Training and collaboration: You will participate in learning activities that include trainings in self-leadership, communication, negotiation skills and other future competences. Cross-collaboration is a key competence to develop during the Programme. During your trainee period you will practice a lot of collaboration, both with your fellow trainees and other colleagues in the bank. You will have self-driven cross-collaborative activities and real business challenges to solve with other trainees and participants from the Tech Programme. You will also learn and influence our way of working, as well as our culture and values.

(Due to ongoing pandemic the amount of travel and exchanges might be affected. The Trainee programme will follow the bank's travel policy and restrictions regarding Covid- 19)

Our recruitment process

  • Get to know SEB 

    SEB is a large global company with many career paths to consider. Think about why you are interested in our trainee programme and how you could contribute to our future success. Try to get to know us in order to decide if SEB is the place for you.
  • Let us get to know you 

    Now it’s time for us to get to know you. Application period starts Autumn 2020. In connection with your application you will be invited to psychometric tests and if your profile matches what we are looking for, you will be invited to competency based interviews.
  • Assessment 

    We will invite a selection of our candidates to an "SEB Day" for inspiration and to meet former trainees and representatives from SEB. During the day you will also participate in case-solving as part of our recruitment process. It will be an intense and fun day!
  • Interviews and final offer 

    The final candidates will be invited to additional interviews after the SEB Day where they will meet hiring managers and HR representatives. You will be given a job offer shortly after this, if you are the right person for the trainee-position.
  • Welcome to SEB! 

    The trainee programme starts in the beginning of September with an introduction at your home department followed by a common training week with the other trainees.
