The Paris Agreement
The Paris Agreement is a groundbreaking achievement in global climate efforts, marking the first time a binding treaty uniting all nations to fight climate change. Adopted by 196 countries and effective from November 2016, its primary goal is to limit the global temperature increase to well below 2°C, with efforts to cap it at 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Recent findings emphasize the need to keep warming under 1.5°C to avoid severe climate impacts like extreme droughts and heatwaves. SEB’s Sustainability strategy is aligned with the Paris Agreement, we are signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible Banking, and we are committed to the Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA).
