Here are the most important changes – in short
The basis for the change is a global format according to the ISO 20022 standard. The Swedish payments will also be based on a rulebook developed at a Nordic level within the Nordic Payments Council (NPC), which is similar to the rulebook for SEPA payments in EUR. All in all, this leads to a harmonisation with payments in the rest of Europe and the world. Below changes will have a phased implemented during 2026.
-
- A payment can carry more information than today. This provides greater traceability and less risk of errors.
- It will be mandatory to state the payee’s name for account credit transfers, Bankgiro, and Plusgiro payments.
- Strengthened OCR number control for payments initiated via file for a more accurate reconciliation.
- Money orders will not be offered through the new Bankgiro infrastructure. From 2026-06-30 account number will be needed for all beneficiaries.
- The information that is today included in the image files (scanned pictures of the payment slips from the invoices) will be included in the same reports as other payments.
