I enjoy the variety in my work

Martin Rosén

What is it like working as a Legal Counsel at SEB Pension & Insurance? For Martin Rosén, it’s work with variety, development opportunities, and a culture built on openness and support.

After completing his law degree at Umeå University, working for a few years at a business law firm, and serving as a court clerk, Martin Rosén continued his journey to SEB. Today, he works with a wide range of legal matters from regulatory requirements to customer-related cases in his role as Legal Counsel at SEB Life and Pension. The opportunity for continuous development was a deciding factor when choosing SEB as an employer. Now, he highlights the open and helpful culture as one of the company’s greatest strengths.

Could you tell me what you do in your role as Legal Consel at SEB Life and Pension?

– I work as a lawyer within Life and Pension together with thirteen colleagues. We work with a range of different legal enquiries within the business, covering everything from everyday questions to larger matters. We support the organisation with legal advice related to insurance, monitor new legislation, participate in various business and regulatory projects, handle corporate law matters and board work, as well as draft and negotiate a wide range of agreements. In other words, the work is highly diverse. One moment we may be negotiating a contract with a supplier, and the next we are supporting the business in a specific customer case.

Why did you choose SEB as your employer?

– I knew of SEB as a reliable and well-established employer but the thing that mainly motivated me to work at the bank was the personal development possibilities within the company and the fact that my role at Life and Pension means working closely with the business and continuously being challenged with new varied tasks.

Rosén explains that this impression of SEB was confirmed once he joined the company, and that he also appreciates the openness and social atmosphere.

– Now that I’m working here, I’ve noticed that there is always someone to ask for help or advice. I was about to say that we have a real ‘open-door policy’, but of course we don’t have any doors since we sit in an open-plan office and that reflects the culture. It’s very easy to approach someone when you need to, and people are incredibly helpful.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

– I enjoy the variety in my work, no day is ever the same. Since we work so closely with the business, I also get to meet many people across the organisation with different areas of expertise, which I really enjoy. We are also often involved early in processes, whether it’s a matter of drafting an agreement or interpreting legislation. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of the entire journey when something new is being developed, and it also allows us to contribute our experience and knowledge throughout the whole process.
