Johan Forsberg, Head of Customer Offerings

How do you create value in a time of rapid technological change? Johan Forsberg, Head of Corporate & Investment Banking Technology, shares how AI helps teams to deliver faster and smarter.

Since 2025, Johan Forsberg works as Head of Corporate & Investment Banking Technology,  a big part of SEB’s tech organisation, with more than 1,000 staff. His journey at the bank began in 2006, when his interest in technology and finance led him to the bank’s trainee programme. He has extensive experience from the bank, including international work and leadership roles in IT, strategy, and transformation, which he brings to his current role.

Tell us more about Customer Offerings! What do you work on?

“With a focus on software developer competence and with more than 1000 employees in total, we are responsible for the application deliveries and the tech development teams that support the Corporate & Investment Banking division within SEB. This includes product-centered systems such as our account, payment, and loan systems, as well as services within trading and custody. AI is a natural part of our work, both as a tool for how we build and develop systems, and as an integrated element in our solutions to drive greater efficiency.”

Johan explains that his engagement for the area, which is the largest within SEB’s tech organisation, comes from the importance of the work.

“It is very motivating and rewarding when you feel like the work you do makes a real difference. It is a clear responsibility, and it contributes to the development of the bank.”

How is SEB taking the next step in the rapid digital development?

"The rapid pace of digital development affects every industry, and SEB is no exception. There is so much happening right now, and the changes are coming quickly, which is exciting. The migration to the cloud and AI are two of the biggest and most relevant transformations we are handling at the moment. Regarding the cloud transformation, I believe in a gradual change with a well-thought-out plan, making moves where we see the most business benefit."

Johan also sees AI as a tremendous opportunity.

“It is important that we stay at the forefront of AI development, which has the potential to transform the entire industry. At SEB, we have the right conditions to leverage this technology and have already taken important steps, including introducing AI-based tools that our developers use in their daily work, as well as starting to work with agentic engineering, where AI agents build code while humans act as orchestrators of the agents. AI supports our employees, helping us deliver higher quality at a faster pace by assisting with everything from generating and restructuring code to improving testing, documentation, and code reviews. This frees up time for problem-solving and architecture, which will have a very positive impact on the bank as a whole.”

What makes SEB so attractive to those wanting to work in tech?

“SEB has a clear vision and is facing many ambitious tech initiatives that will shape the future of the bank. It’s an exciting time to work here, with great opportunities for anyone eager to evolve and share their knowledge. We offer a wide variety of initiatives, do not just work with one technology or platform, and are often at the forefront compared to our competitors, something we should remind ourselves of more often. ”
