It’s a great way to kickstart your career
Edvinas Sutkus joined SEB’s Tech Programme in 2023. Today, he works as a Solutions Developer at SEB in Vilnius, working on systems that classify the sustainability of customers’ arrangements.
When it came time for Edvinas Sutkus to apply for university, his choice of study – software development – was clear. “My father is a programmer, and I looked up to him from a young age. I was always watching what he was doing,” he explains. After graduating, Edvinas ran his own E-commerce business for a few years before deciding to return to the tech field, where he found SEB’s Tech Programme.
What was the best part of the Tech Programme?
“Overall, it was a super positive experience, more than I could have ever expected. There were so many opportunities to develop both technical and soft skills. I didn’t expect there to be such a strong focus on communication, teamwork, and understanding how everything fits into the bigger picture at a large corporation like SEB.”
One of the most memorable projects Edvinas worked on during the programme was building monitoring systems displayed on office TV screens. “It was new technology for me, so it was a learning experience, but it was really satisfying to see my work in action.”
What advice do you have for anyone considering the Tech Programme?
“Don’t think too much, just apply. It’s a great way to kickstart your career after university. The programme offered a perfect balance between the projects I was hired to do and the activities within the programme. The colleagues I met, the new skills I learned, and the work we did – everything exceeded my expectations.”
He adds that one of the biggest misconceptions he had about working as a developer was assuming it would be a solitary job. “I always thought being a developer meant working alone, focusing on intense coding projects. But it turns out that teamwork is just as crucial as technical skills. Everybody brings their own knowledge, and that’s how you arrive at the best solutions.”
