From idea to working prototype in 24 hours

70 international IT developers attended SEB's first internal Hackathon. Within 24 hours, 15 teams coded financial planning tools, experimented with Blockchain technology and developed a radically different solution for processing strictly confidential information for instance.

The winning team managed to go from idea to working prototype within 24 hours and coded the foundation for a new investment management app.

"This is a great way of working – not only to find good solutions, but also to tap into the innovative power that exists among our people. They were able to test own ideas in an arena besides their day to day work responsibilities and the outcome was just overwhelming.", says Nina Hautamäki, organiser of SEB's Hackathon.

Hackathons, mostly associated with tech companies like Facebook or Google, have conquered the financial industry. More and more banks invite to coding marathons, giving passionate IT developers the chance to think outside the box.
