SEB’s fund company and funds get top rankings

SEB won in five out of 12 categories when Fondmarknaden.se, Sweden's largest marketplace for funds, named funds of the year 2014. SEB was also named best fund company 2014. SEB Globalfond – Lux was awarded the title best fund all categories as well as winner of the category best global fund. SEB Europafond Småbolag - Lux utd was awarded the title best European fund while SEB Etisk Globalfond won the category best ethical fund. SEB Bioteknikfond - Lux utd won the category best sector fund.

“We are naturally very pleased and see this as an important confirmation of the successful work that our investment teams and product organisation do. SEB is the only large Swedish bank among the winners. We also won quite a few categories and are naturally pleased to be seen as the best fund company as a whole. To have this many talented fund managers and to get this kind of international recognition when many of the global players are missing from the list shows our strength and our breadth. It is also an indicator of quality that the awards are not based purely on developments during 2014, but the average yield over the past three years, says Peter Branner, head of Investment Management at SEB.

The criteria that have been taken into account finding this year's winners in the different categories were, in addition to returns during 2014 and the average return over the past 36 months, the level of risk and return relative to risk. The winners were selected from a total of 1,553 funds traded on Fondmarknaden.se.

SEB Global Fund - Lux is managed by SEB’s QPM team, short for Quantitative Portfolio Management, and led by Ulrika Bergman in Stockholm.

”Last year was a really good year for our actively managed global funds, with SEB Global Fund in the lead. It is really great that our long-term management model that the team here in SEB has gradually built up since 2010 really made a difference during a relatively difficult management year as 2014 ended up being. This shows that it is possible to create good long-term returns at lower risk for our investors, even after fees. The success during 2014 is primarily due to our holdings in bigger, more defensive and stable companies benefited from a shaky global growth in general and a loss of European growth in particular. In hindsight, it was factors such as high quality and lower risk that became the main contributors to the fund performing much better than the market."
