We are eager to meet founders with bright ideas and novel technologies. We are interested in areas ranging from AI, machine learning and automation to fresh business models like peer-to-peer lending and neo-banking.
We invest broadly – investments can be of purely exploratory and financial character, or they can have a clear strategic fit for SEB with partnership potential.
Investing in sustainable competitive advantages
SEB Venture Capital invests in innovative FinTech companies with exceptional growth potential. We invest in excellence and uniqueness – companies with truly outstanding innovations and products that offer a sustainable competitive advantage, and with major international potential.
Our investments can be strategic, where a partnership and potential integration is built between SEB and the startup to increase customer satisfaction. They can also be where the solution is a digital enabler of a more efficient SEB. They can even be innovative solutions to new technology that might in the future be a game-changer for the financial industry.
The companies we invest in are typically based in the Nordic and Baltic region, but on an ad hoc basis we also invest in e.g. UK and Germany.
Investments typically range from SEK 10-30 million initially to SEK 80-100 million in total over a holding period, giving us a solid minority holding in the company with an ownership stake of 15-40 percent.
A deciding factor for us when considering an investment is a skilled, committed management team that is, or wants to become, co-owners of the company. To us, partnership is always important. A requirement for any investment is the formulation of an ownership plan, which describes consensus between us and the other shareholders regarding the company's long-term goals.
Our investment horizon is typically four to seven years, but we understand that building a sustainable company, even more so within fintech, takes time. Our evergreen structure allows us to stay on as owners as long as it takes.
