SEB European Defence and Security Fund
The defence industry operates in a complex geopolitical environment, where security policy considerations need to be balanced with the specific considerations associated with investing in the sector.
Our fund range includes funds with three different levels of defence investments; the SEB European Defence and Security Fund with a focus on the defence and security sector, a number of funds that within the framework of their investment orientation can invest in the conventional defence industry and finally a number of funds that do not invest in the defence industry. Here you can read more about what distinguishes the different levels, which companies and businesses we exclude and which policies govern our work.
In response to the deteriorated security situation in Europe, the region now needs to significantly increase its security and defence investments. SEB strives to contribute to strengthening Europe’s defence, security and resilience by offering investment opportunities in companies that are key players in the development of a stronger and safer Europe.
The Fund may invest in companies involved in nuclear weapons if the company has its headquarters or principal place of business in a NATO, EU or EEA country and has effective and credible mechanisms to ensure respect for human rights. The fund may not invest in controversial weapons (such as cluster bombs, land mines, depleted uranium munitions, and chemical and biological weapons), or companies that derive more than five percent of their revenues from the production or sale of civilian weapons.
A number of funds that invest in equities and corporate bonds can invest in the defence industry. The funds may within the framework of their investment orientation invest in conventional defence industries, but may not invest in companies that contribute to the development of nuclear weapons programmes or the production of nuclear weapons, are involved in the production, development or sale of prohibited or controversial weapons (such as cluster munitions, land mines, depleted uranium munitions, and chemical and biological weapons), or companies that derive more than five percent of their revenues from the production or sale of civilian weapons. The funds are not allowed to invest in companies that lack effective and credible mechanisms to ensure human rights.
